KPMG Restructuring in the UK has announced the formation of its new Special Situations Group (“SSG”), a team dedicated to helping clients improve their performance and protect their value in instances of business underperformance, financial stress, or when impacted by unplanned external events.

The last 12 to 18 months, has seen increased client demand for KPMG’s Restructuring, Performance Improvement and Debt Advisory services.  This demand has been driven by rapidly changing market forces, particularly in relation to customer behaviour and technology, and latterly by increasing levels of economic uncertainty in certain sectors.  At the same time, clients have demanded easier and quicker access to a full range of services to meet their needs.

The new SSG team brings together the range of skills required by clients into one unit, and couples this with a suite of innovative proprietary applications, developed by KPMG and with the use of cutting edge technology.

Blair Nimmo, head of Restructuring for KPMG in the UK, said: “It is increasingly the case that when clients are faced with underperformance or financial stress, they require us to pull together a group of people with diverse skillsets from across multiple parts of the KPMG network – and to do this at speed.

“Bringing these skillsets together into a single team – whether it’s people with traditional operational restructuring expertise, or whose backgrounds are in debt or corporate finance, or even those who are experts at intra-stakeholder negotiations – makes us even more fleet of foot in responding to client crises.

“Our team is one of the largest and most experienced teams of its kind in the market, and is supported by the bench strength of KPMG’s wider advisory offerings in the UK and across the globe.”

Led by partner Mark Raddan, the new team comprises more than 80 people located in London, including 20 partners and directors who collectively have over 300 years’ experience helping clients navigate their way through challenging circumstances, providing services including turnaround, transformation, debt advisory, financial restructuring, liquidity and stakeholder management.
