KPMG is proud to announce the winners of the inaugural Black Entrepreneurs’ Awards, designed to support budding black heritage entrepreneurs
KPMG is proud to announce the winners of the inaugural Black Entrepreneurs’ Awards, designed to support budding black heritage entrepreneurs with turning their business ambitions into a reality. Through the competition, applicants received access to a community of likeminded black heritage start-up entrepreneurs and business leaders, and the three winners will receive:
- A dedicated senior KPMG professional to provide mentorship and coaching
- Access and invitation to the Inspiring Speakers series which convenes leading thinkers, iconic entrepreneurs and industry disruptors
- £5,000 to invest in their business or as a donation to the charity or community project of their choice
- 12 month membership to Enterprise Nation
At the awards ceremony held on 20th November 2018, the winners were announced as Rashide Carvalho from Whipgo, Zak Ajia from GreenPad Enterprise, and Joycelyn Mate from Afrocenchix. The three winners expressed their excitement at having received the award and their eagerness to see where this will take their budding businesses, they said:
Rashide Carvalho: “It all feels a bit unreal. We’ve never entered a competition before and the first time we tried, we’ve got through to the finals out of 120 companies. It's amazing that other people are seeing potential in us. Everything is coming together and it’s amazing.”
Zak Ajia: “I’m very thankful and feel over the moon for winning. The KPMG support will certainly be highly beneficial for my business. It is going to go a long way in terms of bringing more customers on board as well as personal development to achieve financial sustainability. The KPMG award is coming at the right time for my business.”
Joycelyn Mate: “This win is incredible! I'm grateful for the opportunity and want to say a massive thank you to KPMG for recognising black entrepreneurship. There’s a lot of talent that doesn’t get recognised and this is just the first step."
Awards host, KPMG Managing Partner Philip Davidson comments: "I would like to express my personal congratulations to the three well deserving winners. We know black heritage entrepreneurs face various barriers when it comes to setting up their own businesses, but we're committed to addressing these issues. At KPMG we believe we can play an important role in championing black talent and breaking down barriers, such as lack of funding, that prevent black entrepreneurs from succeeding. By introducing these awards we aim to accelerate, recognise and celebrate success among entrepreneurs from black backgrounds.”
