Latest ONS stats show signs of promise

Commenting on the August ONS retail sales figures, Don Williams, UK Retail Partner at KPMG, said:

“Whilst the latest ONS figures show some signs of promise with retail sales growth of 0.3%, a note of caution must be sounded. Retail spending just about met expectations in the month when people often spend a lot on summer trips, back to school gear and food.

“That being said, growth, particularly in the current climate of high street turbulence, shouldn’t be underplayed. No doubt retailers will now be looking for creative ways to finish the year off with a strong golden quarter. ”
