KPMG CFO and Head of Operations, Sarah Willows, has been named in the 2018 Timewise Power 50 awards, a roll-call of the UK’s top flexible and part-time workers who are delivering in business-critical roles with non-traditional working patterns.

With part-time and flexible working at senior levels continuing to move further into the spotlight, the Timewise Power 50 awards champions the people who are doing it best, and highlights the wealth of talent businesses can stand to gain when implementing agile working practices.

Sarah was one of KPMG’s youngest ever partners
after being promoted at the age of 32. Since 2016 Sarah has been Head of Operations and Chief Finance Officer for KPMG in the UK.  She is also a member of the UK executive and board, and chair of KPMG’s Investment Review Board.

Discussing her nomination as a champion of part time workers Sarah said: “It was a lovely surprise to have my daughter at the age of 48 years old as we did not think we could have children.  I want to spend my time with her and enjoy her growing up, but I also relish the intellectual challenge being Sarah
Willows, CFO, brings.  I have to be very strict on myself and impose clear ground rules. Not taking calls or replying to emails when I am at home, delegating properly and accepting that decisions made on my non-working day might not be as I would have made them, but backing them none-the-less. It takes a village
to make my situation work, a great team, boss, peers and a supportive husband, and I feel very lucky.”

Sarah is the partner sponsor of the firm’s Parenting Network and a champion of flexible working throughout the firm.  Sarah concludes “I believe I have shown that life can change dramatically, even for those who are steadfastly set in their ways.  Over the last three years I have become a mother and CFO of the company I have been a part of for nearly 30 years. I could never have foreseen the path my life would take but I am able to juggle my many plates with the support of those around me.  I am very proud to be nominated as a Timewise Power Part Timer, and I will continue to promote the benefits of flexible working throughout the firm and to my wider networks.”

Timewise Joint CEO and judge Karen Mattison MBE says: “Sarah, and all the winners from our top 50, represent how work in the UK is changing, and offers us a glimpse into how jobs will be designed in the future. All it takes is an open minded employer who is prepared to try something new in a bid
to hire and retain the best people, and an innovative solution is born.  I am delighted that the conversation is moving away from WHY people need to work flexibly, to HOW businesses and individuals are making it work.”
