KPMG’s Restructuring practice has been recognised by the UK turnaround industry for its work advising businesses and stakeholders in complex corporate restructuring situations, winning ‘Corporate Restructuring Firm of the Year’ at the Turnaround, Restructuring and Insolvency Awards 2017.

In addition, partner Will Wright was named Practitioner of the Year for his work on the restructurings of Ed’s Easy Diner, Jones the Bootmaker and Style Group.

The awards, held on Wednesday 18th October in London, is one of the largest celebrations in the turnaround industry, recognising best practice and professional excellence in restructuring, recoveries and rescue.

Blair Nimmo, head of KPMG’s Restructuring practice in the UK, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have received this recognition from our peers within the restructuring industry. Over the last 12 months, our team has worked on some of the largest and most complex turnarounds and insolvencies seen both in the UK and overseas, including that of First Oil Expro Limited which was a particularly complex piece of work in the oil and gas sector.

“We have also seen a number of significant successful restructurings in the retail sector and, in addition to our work on high profile cases such as American Apparel, we continue to be market leaders in CVAs, such as that undertaken by department store chain Beales last year.”

Blair Nimmo continued: “I’m also thrilled that Will Wright has been recognised for his market-leading accelerated M&A work, which over the last 12 months has led to successful outcomes for companies including Style Group and Jones the Bootmaker. Often working to tight timeframes, the work of Will and the wider team has helped to preserve over 3,200 jobs and maximise the outcome for all stakeholders.”

KPMG’s Restructuring team was also shortlisted for four other accolades at the Awards, including:
• Corporate Rescue of the Year (Large) - A Jones & Sons
• Insolvency Team of the Year
• Turnaround Firm of the Year
• Turnaround Practitioner of the Year - Mark Raddan

Blair Nimmo concluded: “Our team continues to go from strength to strength, in part due to the success of our market-leading regional business, but also thanks to our Financial Restructuring team which is engaged on a significant number of international assignments. We also continue to innovate via our increasing use of technology-based restructuring solutions, such as our working capital optimisation tool.

“I am therefore proud that our success at the TRI Awards is very much down to the hard work and dedication of the whole team. My thanks go to them all.”
