In her new role as a tax partner, Geiger will lead the firm’s international tax group from KPMG’s London office. Geiger re-joins KPMG from GlaxoSmithKline plc where she was Global Head of Tax and responsible for setting, directing and delivering its international tax strategy.

During her three years at GSK, Geiger played a key part in the multi-billion dollar Novartis transaction and integration. She also held the role of Acting Group Treasurer and was actively involved in the technological transformation of the organisation’s global tax compliance operations.

In 2008, Geiger became KPMG’s youngest female equity partner. During her time with KPMG, Geiger led the firm’s banking M&A tax offering and was later lead partner for a number of global banking and large-corporate clients. Geiger started her career with KPMG’s Tax Business School and also held positions with Standard Chartered Bank’s tax planning and structured finance division.

Michelle Quest, Partner and Head of Tax at KPMG in the UK, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Melissa back to KPMG to lead our international tax group. Melissa is well known within KPMG as a truly high calibre tax professional and has since built significant practical experience and sector knowledge from her time in the life sciences industry. Her appointment reflects our commitment to support the growth of a core area of our business and will bring real value to our clients.”

Commenting on her appointment, Melissa Geiger said: “The international tax environment is becoming increasingly complex. Such rapid change means that corporates are looking for expert advice to help navigate the challenges this brings, such as ensuring their tax strategy supports their business growth ambitions.”

Chris Stirling, Global Chairman of the Life Science sector at KPMG, said "KPMG continues to invest in amazing talent to strengthen our offerings to Life Science clients around the world. I am delighted that Melissa is joining us, adding her huge sector knowledge and experience. I look forward to working with her."
Geiger is part of Harvard Business School’s Women’s Leadership Forum, which is a group of 62 senior business women from over 40 countries. She has also been a member of the CBI Tax Committee and FTSE 100 Group Tax Committee and has regularly engaged with HM Treasury and HMRC on matters of tax policy and administration.
