2019 Global Automotive Executive Survey - green tree road

The 2019 Global Automotive Executive Survey marks the 20th year that KPMG has interviewed approximately 1000 automotive executives and 2000 consumers worldwide, to understand how the global automotive sector is growing, changing and reacting to challenges and opportunities.

Key findings:

  • 67% of automotive executives believe they are capable of managing a platform service, such as an app, to offer mobility services. No longer will consumers sign up for a lease or PCP every few years. Instead, a regular payment will combine all travel modes into one.
  • 53% UK executives believe that by 2030 less than 5% of global car production will originate in Western Europe.
  • 51% UK executives believe the number of physical retail outlets will be reduced by 30-50% by 2025.
  • The data ownership debate continues: only 35% of UK automotive executives expect the owner to have data ownership of their vehicle. However, almost half of the consumers surveyed (47%) believe that the owner of the vehicle should be the sole data guardian.
