The date of Autumn Budget 2018 has been confirmed for 29 October.
On 26 September, the Chancellor confirmed that Autumn Budget 2018 will be delivered on 29 October. We understand that this is to avoid clashes with Brexit negotiations with the EU, scheduled during October and (provisionally) November. This is obviously much closer than the customary 10 weeks’ notice usually required, however (as noted in a previous issue of Tax Matters Digest) the Office for Budget Responsibility had been asked to begin preparations for the Budget by the Chancellor while a date was being confirmed.
Unusually, 29 October falls on a Monday (in contrast with recent years where the Budget has generally been delivered on a Wednesday) and, although the timing is yet to be confirmed, it is possible that it may be slightly later in the afternoon, to allow for the fact that Parliament usually commences at 2.30pm on Mondays. Once the schedule for the day has been confirmed, we will provide an update in Tax Matters Digest, along with further information on how you can access our coverage of Autumn Budget 2018 and our predictions on what Autumn Budget 2018 may have in store.
