Mary joined KPMG as Chief Risk Officer in August 2018. She is a member of the UK Board and the Executive Board.
Mary is responsible for the effective governance of risks facing KPMG. She oversees its risk transformation programme and risk management framework, including Quality and Risk Management and the Legal function. A significant part of Mary’s role is about making it easy for staff to do the right thing. This goes beyond changing the way everyone works; it also means changing culture.
Mary joined KPMG from Willis Towers Watson, where she was Head of Client, Industry and Business Development. Her role encompassed the development of Willis’ strategy and value proposition, and the delivery of innovative risk management and broking services through Willis’ global network. As a leading expert on risk and regulation, Mary has advised clients on all aspects of risk, regulation and financial crime. Prior to this role she was Group Head of Risk and Compliance. Mary previously served as Global Head of Financial lines ($300m P&L responsibility), Head of Financial Institutions and Group Head of Risk & Compliance.
Mary is a dual-qualified US and UK lawyer, and has served as a senior regulator in both countries, including as the Head of Approved Persons at the Financial Services Authority. Prior to this she was a Partner at an international law firm.
She has been named one of Intelligent Insurer’s ‘100 Influential Women in Re/Insurance’ in 2016 and 2017 and a Business Insurance 2017 EMEA ‘Woman to Watch.’ Mary is also a regular speaker on ethics, governance and regulatory issues.
