Carwyn has over 18 years’ experience in the health sector covering clinical, financial and whole health economy roles. He has also worked across a number of other public sector organisations including central government and the education sector. His main focus lies in Care System Redesign, looking at a whole systems and care economy approach to developing and improving health and social care. Other assignments include Clinical Strategy development, Mergers and Acquisitions and Programme Management, supporting a range of clients across acute, community, mental health, primary care, and local authorities/social care together with the Department of Health and Monitor. Prior to joining KPMG, as a qualified accountant, Carwyn worked in senior finance roles within the NHS and was responsible for activities such as preparing Trusts’ year end accounts and the management of large capital programmes. He has also worked in a clinical capacity, having initially trained as a Theatre Practitioner within Operating Theatres. Carwyn publications include ‘The use of financial incentives to help improve health outcomes: Is the Quality and Outcomes Framework fit for purpose?’ (Oxford Journal of Public Health, Aug. 2013). He has also contributed to KPMG’s Thought leadership publication ‘Hospital Collaboration in the NHS – Exposing the Myths’.
