Martin is the National lead for Restructuring in the Education sector, and undertakes a National oversight and advisory role on all work undertaken by Restructuring in the sector. He has built relationships with a number of the principal lenders to the sector, HEFCE and other Funding Agencies, providing discrete and confidential support on sensitive engagements. The nature of Education engagements has varied from small focussed transactional work to significant management of whole institutions. In particular he has led independent reviews and advisory engagements to Further Education institutions nationally. He also provided project support and due diligence to Further Education institution mergers, assisted in the successful turnaround of a UK Higher Education Institution and provided a number of independent reviews of HEI business plans for Russell Group universities. Prior to KPMG, Martin worked for a major UK bank, providing company reviews on high risk lending clients, prior to the involvement of an Insolvency Practitioner. Sectors included Cosmetic Packaging, Construction and Horticultural. Martin also worked within Private Equity for nine years providing forecasts, turnaround plans, assisting in the implementation of profit improvement plans and overseeing cash management projects. The complexity of the business varied from multi nationality, multi currency, conglomerates to single sector SME businesses across a broad range of sectors. During this period he held the position of Financial Director of a successful Information Technology business, for 3 years managing the business through rapid growth and sustained profitability.
