We saw a historic drop in UK retail sales in March 2020 as measures were taken to address COVID-19. Total sales decreased by 4.3 percent in the five weeks to 4 April, according to the latest monthly BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor. Behind the monthly average, sales grew by 12 percent in the first three weeks of March, then declined by 27 percent in the last two weeks of the period. And there were more drastic divides between food and non-food, and physical and online.
