In response to the United Nations Global Compact's statement on of climate change in 2007, KPMG International, as a global citizen, has announced a Global Green Initiative to help to address the challenges of climate change. We offer strategies and programs to all member firms to slow down the carbon emissions and reduce their carbon footprint by 25% by the year 2010 from a 2007 baseline to fulfill our responsibilities regarding Corporate Citizenship and put KPMG's core values into practice.
In 2008, a 'KPMG Green' season has encouraged a number of partners and staff of KPMG in Taiwan to make a declaration on carbon reduction and energy saving. This has included issuing an environmental protection weekly alert and voting for a KPMG environmental protection ambassador to vigorously confront the issues of environmental protection and global warming. For colleagues' personal action, we have carried out a lights-off activity for one hour at the noon break and encouraged everyone to take a recycled bag for shopping, a cup for water and eco-chopsticks with them. Beside every printer, a recycling container is always available for reusing paper in our office. And instead of traditional bills, cell phone E-bills have been used since July 2008 and can save about 15,000 pieces of paper each month. KPMG in Taiwan will continue to use these activities to protecting the earth.
