Bangkok, 1 April 2019 – On 1 April, over 1,300 of the management and staff joined hands to contribute over 10,000 hours in volunteer efforts 11 projects to give back to society and promote sustainability. During the same period, KPMG in Thailand also organized KPMG Charity Market 2019, an event that supports 13 charitable organizations, while allowing them to promote their cause to the public.
“1 April is KPMG Care & Share Day – a collective effort of all KPMG staff to give back to society. Each year, we encourage our people to create a positive impact to society and the community. The KPMG Care & Share Day focuses on four key areas that are part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): education, environment, diversity, and social inclusion. We ask our people to volunteer their time to really give back to the society in meaningful and sustainable ways, and this is done over 11 different projects in areas of need in Bangkok and surrounding provinces,” said Winid Silamongkol, Chief Executive Officer, KPMG in Thailand.
This year, KPMG in Thailand puts emphasis on activities that help the environment and combat climate change, such as the recycling of office garbage into eco-bricks to build a learning center at Little Bee Hero Education Farm, Pathum Thani. Other environmental related activities include building water reservoirs and planting mangrove trees, beach cleaning activities and working with youth to help solve garbage problems in their area. The ‘Care & Share Day’ is also a ‘No Single-use Plastic Day’ at KPMG in Thailand; no single-use plastic will be used by KPMG staff at any of the activities done during the KPMG Care & Share Day. Each staff member is provided with a cloth bag and water tumbler to use.
Another event in KPMG’s efforts to steer the public market and society towards a sustainable tomorrow is KPMG Charity Market 2019, in which KPMG provides a platform for over 13 charitable organizations and social enterprises to sell local, environmentally-friendly products, travelling packages, and many more. Revenue from sales (without deduction of any expenses) will be used to directly further the philanthropic causes of each charity and social enterprise.
