From the unprecedented disruptions brought about by COVID-19 to evolving climate risks, 2020 has been a time of global shifts and uncertainty. The future holds very real issues for businesses, the economy and our way of life – issues that we want you to find solutions to as part of this year’s Global FinTech Hackcelerator.
Based on the theme “Building Resilience, Seizing Opportunities and Emerging Stronger”, we see the winning solutions from Global FinTech Hackcelerator 2020 as potential game changers in how we respond to the current risk climate, enhance our sustainability, and successfully navigate the future.
Category 1: Responding to a Global Pandemic
Solutions that drive social impact with the aim of tackling the challenges relating to a global pandemic.
Category 2: Green Finance Solutions
Financial solutions that support the transition to low-carbon economic activities, and provide coverage for climate and disaster risk.
Category 3: Green Finance Enablers
Solutions relating to the information, processes and mechanisms that support transparency, integrity and decision making for green transition and climate finance flows.
Category 4: Sustainability
Any other solutions which enable financial institutions to build resilience to crises (both man-made and natural) and promote sustainable development outcomes.
As part of the annual Singapore FinTech Festival, the Global FinTech Hackcelerator is one of the most exciting programs in the region. And this year’s program holds even more promise for participants, with start-ups getting the chance to realize solutions for some of the most pressing problems facing the financial industry.
The shortlisted finalists can expect the following:
The Global FinTech Hackcelerator attracts hundreds of submissions every year, with international representation from over 40 countries.
Previous finalists from the Global FinTech Hackcelerator have gone on to work with corporates to pilot and scale their solutions, while others have successfully exited via acquisitions.
This year’s Global FinTech Hackcelerator promises to be even more exciting, with new focus areas to address the challenges of our constantly evolving world.
Do you have what it takes to fix the most current and complex industry challenges of today?
Step 1: Application
Submit your application on the APIX platform. Up to 10 teams from the local track will then be selected as finalists by a panel of industry leaders.
Step 2: Virtual program for shortlisted teams
The shortlisted teams will undergo a virtual program hosted by APIX, a cloud-based prototyping platform. Led by KPMG Digital Village, this program will help finalists contextualize and enhance their prototype/solution. Mentoring and guidance from corporate champions and real financial services business sponsors will also be included.
Step 3: Demo Day
At the end of the virtual program, the start-ups together with 10 winners from the international programs* will have the chance to demonstrate their solution at the Singapore FinTech Festival on 9 November 2020.
The top winning three start-ups will receive an additional cash prize of S$50,000 each. All 20 finalists will also receive a cash stipend of S$20,000, to be used either to develop a contextualized POC or enhance their solution with a corporate.
Step 4 – Post-Hackcelerator
Teams will have the opportunity to work with industry champions to plan for actual adoption and integration of their solutions into a real client context.
*The Global FinTech Hackcelerator also supports international programs run by international partners, with independent challenges held around the world. They include Women’s World Banking’s FinTech Innovation Challenge, UNCDF’s Financial Health Challenge, Saudi G20 Presidency and Bank For International Settlements’ G20 TechSprint Initiative and more. Ten winners from the international programs run by international partners will be fast-tracked into the finals of the Global FinTech Hackcelerator.
