This issue considers in detail the topic of responsible investments and other related issues: investor expectations and international requirements in the area of responsible investments, and also existing sustainability indexes, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.
At present sustainability issues are becoming ever more relevant. Year on year the share of companies considering all three aspects of their impact on stakeholders – economic, social and environmental aspects – is growing. The investment community plays a key role in this process, as it determines to a large extent the strategic development areas of a business. Research shows that investors focus more and more on the environmental and social aspects of a business and also the corporate governance of companies when they take investment decisions. Moreover, sustainability indexes, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which take account of non-financial indicators, have a direct impact on the capitalization of companies.
In Russia the issue of responsible investments has not yet gained prominence. However, the Russian business community is displaying an increasing interest in this problem area.
Key issues related to responsible investments are highlighted in the third issue of the KPMG Bulletin “In Focus: Corporate Governance and Sustainability”, prepared by the Corporate Governance and Sustainability group, KPMG in Russia and the CIS. This issue covers in detail the relevant topics of responsible investments from the perspective of investors, provides information on the benefits of responsible investments for different organizations, and also describes the sustainability methodology of the SAM specialist investment company developed for the Dow Jones group of indexes.
