"The future of lean government", the most recent analysis from KPMG in Romania, emphasizes the implementation of shared services centres as means to enhance efficiency of the administration. However, applying private sector indicators to government activities is a profound change for these institutions percieved as ineffective including by official studies carried out by international organizations such as OECD and the World Bank.

The current trend favors a significant change as the public has growing expectations regarding this topic. To meet these expectations, governments need to have the right tools (processes and systems) operated by the right people. A first necessary step for putting the house in order is the introduction of robust, integrated systems and efficient processes, the latter achievable through the development of shared service centres as one of the tried and tested approaches.
