What made you decide to be an intern of RGM&Co.?

I decided to be an intern of KPMG because I saw that it was a place I could be nurtured. I didn't know anything about tax because I am not a CPA, but I loved my Tax classes. When I talked to the KPMG lawyers, I felt like I had a lot to learn from them and they would kindly spend time explaining things to me. That's why I applied!

What made the internship unique and special?

The internship was special for me because it was structured. I knew from the first day that the Internship Committee intended for us to learn things we will not learn in class! We even had seminars and tours; we were introduced to a lot of basic things which we'll encounter in future tax practice. The interns were well taken care of.

How has the internship impacted your future?

The internship actually cemented my plans to become a tax practitioner. The time I spent with KPMG allowed me to see that tax practice is a puzzle that never ends! There is always a problem to solve and a skill to learn. It is an exciting field to be part of.

What was the highlight of your internship?

The highlight of my internship would be the sanitized opinions. I love researching and learning new things. During these exercises, I gained knowledge not only from my desktop research but also through the advising that I received from the mentors. I enjoyed that and I would really like to do it again.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become an intern under RGM&Co.’s tax practice?

Learn to see things in a tax perpective. It's unnerving at first, since it's not very "legal", so to speak; it will definitely be weird that you can't cite the basic Consti and Civ stuff you know by heart now. But when you get the hang of it, you'll realize how very legal it still is! Try to see The Tax Perspective and everything will be more fun!
