What is the R&D tax credit?

Watch our short videos on the R&D Tax Credit:

  • Are you trying to solve a hard problem?
  • Through a particular methodology, process, or frame work?
  • Does your project aim to create new knowledge, or new or improved processes, goods or services?

If your answer is yes, it’s highly likely your project is eligible for the R&D tax incentive.

Government and officials have spent a significant amount of time developing the R&D tax credit legislation. One of the key features of the new legislation, is a modernised definition of “R&D”.

R&D is no longer bound by the stereotype of old, with test tubes, lab coats, and fancy machinery. Moreover, there is a recognition that R&D is everywhere, in all types of business, and takes many forms.

There’s plenty to think about now that the incentive has been legislated, including how it will apply to your business, and what systems you may need in place to maximise your tax incentive opportuinty.

We’ve also been following Government’s progress on the introduction of the credit very closely. There are still some features of the credit that Inland Revenue are working through, and to keep businesses updated we will be providing regular updates on their progress.
