Major New Zealand exporters of food and beverage are urging members from the World Trade Organisation to accelerate efforts to fix its currently suspended trade disputes mechanism. Attempts to reach a consensus on the Appellate Body WTO have failed leaving it unable to function. The Appellate body adjudicates on contested rulings over disputes between member states. The members stated that a stable enforceability mechanism provides certainty and confidence for exporters and that efforts need to be doubled to engage constructively in the reform process. The members report that the WTO had a major part in the growth of New Zealand economy over the past 25 years.
