On 27 March 2019 KPMG's Capital Markets Accounting Advisory Services organized the third edition of its annual IFRS 16 seminar for its corporate clients. Following the transition to IFRS 16 as of 1 January 2019 for most companies, this year's seminar focussed on how to move the IFRS 16 project into business as usual by handing over to the business owners.
During the seminar TomTom shared its experiences on implementing IFRS 16 as an early adopter and how it dealt with the first full year already, John Forbes from KMPG Makinson Cowell discussed how the impact of IFRS 16 should be shared with the investor community. Brian O'Donnovan - Deputy leader of the Global IFRS Leases Topic Team of KPMG's International Standards Group shared some hot topics on accounting for IFRS 16. In addition the impact of IFRS 16 on impairment testing (IAS 36) and tax accounting (IAS 12) was discussed as part of the normal business operations.
