The Honourable Minister of Finance on Monday, 5 November 2018 inaugurated the recently appointed Tax Appeal Commissioners as members of the Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT) sitting in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, Lagos and Abuja.
This is a welcome development in the annals of tax controversy and dispute resolution in Nigeria after a standstill for two years since the expiration of the tenure of the last set of Commissioners in 2016. Taxpayers with pending tax disputes at the TAT can now expect their appeals to be listed for hearing and resolution after such a prolonged waiting period.
We hope that the authorities would be well advised to ensure continuity of the TAT in future by appointing new Commissioners immediately the incumbents have completed their tenure.
