PETALING JAYA, 15 July 2022 – KPMG in Malaysia continues to champion quality education through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 14 top universities and colleges across the country.

In his special message delivered at the MoU signing ceremony held recently, Datuk Johan Idris, Managing Partner of KPMG in Malaysia, said, “Institutions of higher learning play a crucial role in educating young talents with the necessary knowledge and skillset. Through this MoU, KPMG will commit professional expertise and insights to help shape academic programs so we can collectively prepare the next generation of leaders to contribute towards nation-building. In essence, this is KPMG’s Purpose – to inspire confidence and empower change – realised.”

KPMG signed the MoU with these educational institutions: INTEC Education College, International Islamic University of Malaysia, Multimedia University, Sunway University, Taylor’s University, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, and University of Nottingham Malaysia.

Working together with mutual trust, KPMG will explore avenues to promote quality learning which includes providing guidance on professional development, strategic engagement, and social connection opportunities that allow graduates to thrive both in and outside the classroom.

Adrian Lee, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of KPMG in Malaysia, explained, “Being a strong advocate of quality education has always been part of the firm’s DNA. The KPMG Ambassadorship program, which was launched in 2020 and incorporated into this MoU, remains one of our capstone initiatives that helps us advocate for what really matters.”

The KPMG Ambassadorship program is curated to support young talents develop professional and interpersonal skills through structured mentorship, guaranteed internship, and engagement activities. To date, KPMG is proud to onboard over 110 ambassadors comprising undergraduates not only from Malaysia’s top universities but also universities in the UK.

This MoU follows the launch of the KPMG Education Trust Fund (the Trust) in February 2022, both representing initiatives for KPMG to champion quality education. The Trust aims to provide financial and academic development support to deserving young talents nationwide, especially those from the B40 community. In May 2022, the Trust awarded a total of 156 recipients through four sponsorship and scholarship programs.

Adrian concluded, “We recognize that education is one of the most powerful drivers of economic growth, social mobility and well-being. That’s why KPMG wholeheartedly supports the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 ‘Quality Education and Lifelong Learning’ globally. We want to use our skills and resources to make an immediate difference to those that need it the most.”
