In line with the announcement by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the implementation of the Movement Control Order to limit the outbreak of Covid-19, the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (“MIRB”) will be closing all its office premises from 18 March 2020 until 31 March 2020.

During this period, the MIRB will activate its Business Continuity Plan to ensure the continuity of the tax services offered and continue to provide some of its services.  However, it remains to be seen how certain dealings with the MIRB can proceed during this period, for instance, the revision of estimate of tax payable in the month of the 3rd instalment payment, tax audit matters with deadlines for resolution and etc.

To facilitate taxation matters during the Movement Control Order period, one of the notable steps implemented by the MIRB is granting a grace period of 2 months for the submission of the following return forms via e-Filing, by post or by hand, where applicable:

(a)   Form E for the Year of Remuneration 2019;

(b)   Forms BE, B, BT, M, MT, P, TP, TJ and TF for Year of Assessment (“YA”) 2019; and

(c)   Forms C, C1, PT, TA, TC, TR and TN for YA 2019, Form CPP for YA 2019 as well as Form CPE with accounting periods ended 31 July 2019, 31 August 2019, 30 September 2019, 31 October 2019 or 30 November 2019.

For item (c), it is unclear whether the grace period of 2 months applies to manual filings (where applicable).
