Given the importance of the aviation industry within Malta’s growing economy, KPMG sought to deliver a course dealing with the aviation industry from a practical perspective.

The first of the three session was presented by Dr Nicholas Valencia who discussed the legal regime on aircraft registration, security over aircraft and enforcement. This session was followed by Transport Malta aircraft registration expert Dr Lara Buttigieg who shared practical insights of aircraft registration procedures from the Regulator point of view.

The course continued with a discussion on drones and the “legal consequences of drone regulation” presented by Dr Francesca Ferrando from KPMG Malta and a session on passenger protection delivered by Dr Nadia Giordimaina (GM International Affairs at Air Malta) and Dr Francesca Ferrando.

The Principles of Aviation Sessions also focused on tax related matters which impact the aviation industry with a presentation delivered by Dr Silvia Marziano on tax and social security considerations for aircraft crew members and other related employees. A presentation was also delivered by Kurt Farrugia on income tax considerations of companies involved in aircraft operation, aircraft finance and aircraft leasing.
