KPMG Malta will be represented by Gaming Advisor Mark O'Sullivan who will lead a panel of heavyweights from the esports industry.
PLAYCON is the first event of its kind in Malta and will take place from 3rd to 6th October 2019 at MFCC, Ta’ Qali during the DELTA Summit. On Friday, 4th October, Playcon will host a full-day, thought-leadership event, the “GameDev & Esports Summit”. The Playcon Summit is targeted to anyone who is already in, or new to, the video games or esports industry and wants to take a deep dive into this exciting ecosystem. Over 40 expert speakers will provide unique and thought-provoking insight throughout the Summit, which will be free-to-attend for all DELTA Summit ticket holders.
He will be moderating a panel session, entitled “Esports | Let's Take Stock" and be joined by some well-known personalities from the industry. Ivan Filletti has been a driving force for the video games and esports industries in Malta. As Head of Operations and Business Development at GamingMalta, Ivan will voice Malta’s current initiatives and future plans. Paul Chaloner needs no introduction for those who follow esports. He has been an esports broadcast host and commentator for almost 20 years. Beyond his media work, Paul’s experience has led him to advise some of the biggest companies in the business of video games and esports. CEO of ESL (Benelux), the world’s oldest and largest esports company, Jaap Visser signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Malta’s Government.
Completing the panel is a veteran in the esports industry, Kersten Chircop. As the founder of GMR Entertainment, the company responsible for organising Playcon, Kersten shared his enthusiasm with Mark and KPMG Gaming Team:
“We are very excited to be organising Playcon, Malta’s first game development and esports expo, alongside GamingMalta. This event will provide a unique opportunity for both game enthusiasts and newcomers to experience this exciting chapter in Malta, which will bring new opportunities for the economy, for young people as well as contribute to the development of the local community.”
In addition to the Summit, there will be an Expo Floor throughout the event with over 50 exhibitor stands showcasing Malta’s best video games development and esports companies. Over the weekend (5th – 6th October), more than 250 players will compete in a variety of esports, with a standout prize pool of €10,000 for the Fortnite tournament.
Malta launched its national Video Games Development and Esports Strategy in May 2019, marking another of the government’s efforts to diversify the economy and expand its position as a tech island.
