The NAV of Professional Investor Funds (PIFs) in Malta, make up just over 70% of the total fund NAV in Malta. The flexibility afforded by PIFs, as an investment fund vehicle for all types of Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), is the reason for its popularity.
Malta as a funds jurisdiction provides an environment that is attractive to small-to-medium sized funds and start-up managers. The infrastructure is geared towards catering for emerging funds and managers, and the authorities in Malta are making extensive efforts to ensure that Malta's regulatory framework strikes the right balance between innovation, an efficient and straightforward licensing process, and effective regulation. The Professional Investor Fund regime, which is an investment fund vehicle suited for all types of Alternative Funds, has been simplified as recently as 2017 and continues to gain in popularity.
