Stephan Piazza is a lawyer working within the Shipping and Yachting Advisory sub-function. He has a varied client portfolio, including international ship-owners and credit institutions in all maritime law aspects such as Ship and Super-Yacht Registration, Shipping Compliance, Shipping Sale & Purchase and Ship Finance. In addition to the pure Flag of Choice and Registration advisory role, Stephan also advises shipping groups on the adoption of efficient tax structures and practices on the basis of their governance and market requirements. Stephan’s aim is that of identifying new opportunities for KPMG’s shipping clients as well as bridging the gap with the Maltese Regulator at Transport Malta and other industry stakeholders. His role is also that of constantly updating KPMG’s shipping clients with recent regulatory changes adopted at an IMO, European and local level. Stephan attends and speaks at high profile seminars and conferences both locally and abroad in order to keep himself and the whole team abreast with recent market trends and developments. Stephan is also an Executive Committee Member of the Malta Maritime Law Association which forms part of the Comite’ Maritime International. Also through the Malta Maritime Law Association, Stephan is actively involved in legal drafting at a local level. He has also published a number of articles in both local and international journals. He collaborates with the University of Malta and the Malta College of Arts Science and Technology as an external examiner and has delivered lectures at the ELSA Malta Summer Law School.
