China companies get acquainted with investment opportunities in the Latvian infrastructure sector

On October 18, a delegation from the China International Contracting Organization (CHINCA) visited Riga. The purpose of the visit was for Chinese companies to get acquainted with investment opportunities in the infrastructure sector of Latvia.

During the visit, Chinese companies met with Latvian infrastructure organisations such as AS RB Rail, SJSC Latvian Railway, Freeport of Riga and Freeport of Ventspils and the investment environment of Latvia was described to the Chinese companies also by representatives of the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Transport and business consulting firm KPMG Baltics Ltd.

“Traditionally, the cooperation between Latvia and China has been carried out according to the so-called 16+1 format, which is an initiative by China aimed at intensifying and expanding cooperation with 11 EU Member States, including Latvia and 5 Balkan countries in the fields of investments, transport, finance, science, education and culture. As such, the importance of this visit to Latvia can hardly be overstated. As Chinese companies are in the position to provide large investments and resources Latvian infrastructure companies find it very useful to sit down at the same table with potential investors to discuss cooperation opportunities face to face” says Armine Movsisjana, Managing Partner of KPMG Baltics Ltd.

The China delegation includes companies such as China First Highway Engineering Group, CITIC Construction Co, China Road and Bridge Corporation, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and others.

The delegation's visit to Riga was organized by the business consulting firm KPMG in Latvia in cooperation with KPMG in China and was attended by various companies related to the infrastructure sector of Latvia.

China International Contractors Association (CHINCA) is a national organization formed by Chinese international project investors, contractors, labour service companies and related service providers.
