KPMG Luxembourg has officially launched its Tax and Donuts initiative, a project aimed at bringing tax conversations to individual taxpayers and supporting good local causes. Experts from the firm will be going on tour throughout Luxembourg, hitting five stops on five different days, to meet the public. They will distribute donuts, raise funds for charity, and be on hand to explain individual tax topics.
Part of KPMG Luxembourg’s vision is to help make tax more transparent and easier to understand. In that spirit, the firm has recently launched a free online tax calculator designed to help Luxembourg workers, be they resident or non-resident, better understand their tax deductions and forecast their taxes before filing their returns.
The Tax and Donuts initiative is a second step in this effort: the firm has reached out to individual taxpayers via the online tool, and is now hoping—to the extent that it’s possible—to spread their tax knowledge in person.
“Tax is not a subject I often overhear people excitedly whispering about,” said Georges Bock, partner and Head of Tax at KPMG Luxembourg. “Except when I’m at the office, of course—but it’s nevertheless an immensely fundamental facet of government and society, and everyone is implicated. With this initiative we want to speak to people directly, and help them better understand their rights.”
He added, “And what better conversation-starter is there than donuts?”
The donuts will be provided by the Lycée Technique de Bonnevoie, by pupils studying the art of pastry-making. All donations given will go to Île aux Clowns, a non-profit organisation whose mission is to lighten the lives of disadvantaged or downtrodden people.
“We find it very important to involve different members of our community,” said Flora Castellani, an executive director in KPMG Luxembourg’s tax department. “Luxembourgish students will be the geniuses behind the donuts themselves, and Île aux Clowns is doing impressive work bringing joy where it’s needed most. Both of these partners reflect the essence of the initiative: connecting to the community, sharing knowledge, and helping people.”
The tour dates are as follows:
As a group, the tax specialists at each event will be conversant in Luxembourgish, German, French, and English. All are welcome.
