In January Tax & Legal team at KPMG in Kazakhstan and Central Asia held a series of tax business breakfasts dedicated to the latest tax legislation amendments and new regulations on hiring foreign employees.
The first event of the series was held on 18 January in Atyrau and was hosted by Senior Managers Dinara Mukatayeva and Altynshash Zhussipova. On the next day, Dinara and her colleagues Assem Shayakhmetova, Director, and Askhad Koshkarbayev, Senior Manager, gave a presentation for the Astana business community. The event series concluded with a business breakfast for clients and targets in Almaty hosted by Director Vyacheslav Sosnovskiy, Senior Manager Tatiana Gorbacheva, and Altynshash Zhussipova.
"At the business breakfasts we discussed with clients the major amendments to Kazakh legislation on hiring foreign employees, which came into force on 1 January 2017. The amendments included the introduction of a work permit fee, a revocation of requirements to search for candidates on the local market, and other significant changes to the relevant regulations, and that is why we are sure that for many companies who hire foreign employees in Kazakhstan, our business breakfasts were an important opportunity to learn about the details and to discuss the issue, both with KPMG professionals and with each other," commented Altynshash.
"Tax legislation amendments and tax trends in Kazakhstan are always a topical issue for our clients. One of the most interesting changes we've seen this year is an amendment to the appeal procedure related to a tax inspection decision," said Dinara.
"Another important amendment is the implementation of a compulsory social health insurance system. Free medical services under this programme will be available from 2018, but employers will be required to pay fees starting July 2017, which has various tax-related consequences", added Tatiana.
In addition to discussing major topics, during the business breakfasts we had a chance to exchange opinions with colleagues, find out the most relevant practical issues for clients, and together with them discuss how to solve them using other participants' best practice as well.
