Partner and Head of International Development Sector, KPMG East Africa


George Manu is a Partner at KPMG in East Africa and head of International Development Advisory Services (IDAS). He is also the KPMG Africa Lead Partner for the World Bank Group. George has 30 years’ international development experience in the private sector, academia and the United Nations and has carried out specialist assignments in 60 countries across 4 continents.


Prior to joining KPMG a decade ago, George founded and ran his own business, which he subsequently sold. Previous appointments include CEO of EMPRETEC Ghana foundation, head of enterprise development at the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Turin, Italy, faculty appointments in the UK at Durham University Business School and University of Stirling School of Management and stints in industry in the UK.


George serves/has served on the Board of a number of companies and other organisations including an investment climate facility, a social enterprise manufacturing footballs, a privatisation agency, a Ministerial Advisory Board, the Editorial Advisory Board of an international journal and as Chairman of a venture fund management company. He has been Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship for China Europe International Business School – rated in the Top 10 by the Financial Times in the Global Executive MBA rankings. He is author/co-author of books, training manuals and articles in the field of entrepreneurship, enterprise development and privatisation.


George speaks 4 languages and has a Private Pilots’ Licence. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Durham University, UK and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.
