With drastic changes occurring in business models as a result of digitalization, it is no longer possible for Japan to keep up with the speed and level of progress occurring in the world with its strength of continuous improvements.

The waves of new technologies arriving one after the other, such as AI, IoT and Blockchain, are bringing about drastic changes in the management environment of companies.

Many companies are therefore keen to implement new technologies as soon as possible. However, if we look only at technology, there is a risk that the implementation itself will become a goal. A technology is simply a means. It is important to consider how to effectively apply technologies, and data gained via such technologies, to new businesses. Disruptive technologies may pose a threat to existing businesses. However, they can at times also present new business opportunities.

How to take advantage of data in business situations can be compared to motor sports like Formula One. The goal of motor racing is to mobilize all resources and run safely and quickly in one second to win. To do this, a massive amount of data is sent from the racing car’s sensors to the home supercomputer in real time, analyzed and fed back to the car through the paddock during the race. Meanwhile, the driver not only demonstrates his/her excellent driving skills, but also continues to communicate professional insights like “the rear wheels are slipping” through a microphone. Winning or losing a race greatly depends on the tuning during the race. Successful tuning requires computer analyses and driver insights. Computers are needed to analyze a massive amount of data from various angles, and only knowledgeable professionals can make an appropriate judgment based on the analysis results. If either missing, a race cannot be won. The same applies to business. Only after new technologies are merged with the knowledge of professionals can we survive the current severe business environment.

KPMG Ignition Tokyo constantly stands at the forefront of technologies and continues to pursue the development and operation of platforms capable of handling massive amounts of data securely and flexibly, AI capable of sophisticated analysis, and methods of visualizing analysis results clearly. We will use the latest technologies to bring to light internal tacit knowledge that has not yet been converted into data, and display data in VR or 3D form to make management judgments easier. We will also merge the insights accumulated by KPMG Japan through our audit, tax and advisory services with the latest technologies at KPMG Ignition Tokyo, in order to support the digital transformation of our clients.

In order to accumulate knowledge in cutting-edge technologies, KPMG Ignition Tokyo have gathered together not only experts in cutting-edge technologies of the Cloud, AI, blockchain and IoT, but also experts in various digital fields including data science, data visualization, cloud architecture and system security from Japan and overseas, and will also proactively collaborate with other technology companies. We will work with KPMG Japan firms to provide quick POC utilizing Agile and DevOps approaches, as well as the creation and provision of a common platform and common solutions in liaison with KPMG Global.
