Structure and training journey:

This payroll course is designed as a continuous learning journey for HR payroll professionals that is highly application driven and consists of three distinct phases.

  • Instructor led sessions: Eight hours of instruction delivered through four online instructor led sessions over two weekends that deal with the key topics in payroll processing.
  • Certification: In the second phase learners will have to complete an assessment that will test them on payroll processing and payroll compliance and all other related payroll topics that have been covered. This is a pre-requisite for receiving the payroll course completion certificate from KPMG in India.
  • Follow on webinars: Three quarterly 2-hour webinars. The format of the webinar will be instructions / updates followed by a Q&A session, where learners will get an update on the latest payroll and income tax updates and the participants will be able to ask questions to KPMG in India’s payroll experts..

Course completion certificate:

A completion certificate from KPMG in India will be awarded to participants on securing the minimum passing marks at the end of payroll course assessment. The certificate will be valid for only one year.

The payroll course will be facilitated by senior payroll experts (Partners, Directors, Associate Directors, Managers) from KPMG in India’s tax practice, who specialize in HR payroll finance and income tax. 

Course fees:

The payroll course is available as a yearly subscription.

The fees for the first year of subscription is INR 20,000 plus taxes.

From the second year, the yearly subscription fees are INR12,000 plus taxes.

  • The participants are expected to understand the basics of payroll terminologies only.
  • The basics will cover knowledge around payroll components, salary structures, taxability on such components in India. The payroll course will further include Income tax perspectives, payroll process, salary components, effects of changes on employees.
  • The payroll course will also cover important topics such as compliances, non-compliances and related penalties and consequences.

2. How much time do I have to complete the payroll course? Is there any time frame that I must adhere to?

The participant is required to attend 8 hours of live session delivered by KPMG in India tax practitioners and attend the webinars of 2 hours each as a part of the subscription.

3. During the webinar, what will be described/briefed?

There are 2 sets of webinars –

  • The first webinar is on Awareness and program launch.
  • The second set of webinars will be a part of the continuous update of knowledge around payroll processes in the Indian taxation domain. It consists of three webinars each quarter: 2 hours each on changes as per the current government announcements from time to time. 

4. What laws are included in payroll course?

Important laws pertaining to HR payroll processes that are being covered are: Indian Income-tax Act,1961, Employees’ Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, Employees State Insurance Act,1948, Payment of Gratuity Act,1972, National Pension System and new Labour codes.

5. When do I have to give the assessment for payroll course?

There will one assessment after attending the 8 hours of live session, however there will be no assessment for webinars

6. Will I receive any university credentials after completing this payroll course?

This payroll course is not affiliated with any academic institution or any accreditation body for continuing education credits.

7. Will I get certified to carry out the process of income tax return?

The payroll course only helps to understand the payroll processes, payroll compliance and taxation laws related to payroll. It shares tax knowledge, but it doesn’t certify you to do processes of income tax return. 

8. Can an MBA fresher or non-finance person do this payroll course?

Professionals interested in HR payroll, payroll process, payroll compliance and payroll related income tax compliances may attend the payroll course for their knowledge and apply the same in their field of work as applicable.
