Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) is the government’s flagship mission with an objective of providing universal sanitation coverage across rural India by 2 October 2019. This case study attempts to document the key success factors of this programme with an aim to serve as an important starting point for other similar programmes globally. The mission has transformed the rural sanitation landscape and has also morphed a government-led sanitation programme into a people’s movement.
