The Ministry of Labour and Employment recently introduced four labour codes and consolidated 29 central laws with an objective to limit multiplicity of employment legislations in India and to modernise labour regulations. These codes regulate (i) Wages (ii) Social Security (iii) Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions and (iv) Industrial Relations.
These transformative changes are not only expected to contribute to a better working environment for blue and white collar workers but also to accelerate the pace of overall economic growth of the country.
The introduction of these codes has cast an obligation upon organisations to revisit their policies and processes internally and give finality to any ambiguous issues.
We have attempted to interpret various new provisions and decipher the uncertainty on many open issues surrounding the recently announced codes.
