Elias George joined KPMG in India after a distinguished career in public service as a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Over his 32 years in the IAS, he served with distinction in senior leadership positions in urban development, transportation, shipping, energy, water resources, urban transit, industry and labour.
He has extensive understanding of evolving policy landscapes in infrastructure and emerging trends, issues and challenges at the national and state levels. Elias has been involved in several policy formulation and project management leadership roles with the union and state governments, and translation of policy objectives into projects on ground.
His experience spans across end-to-end implementation of infrastructure projects, encompassing project design, Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation, funding, financing, setting up of special purpose vehicles and building of execution teams through project completion. He has also played important roles in drafting legislation and policy papers for infrastructure projects such as the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority Bill, and providing inputs for the new National Metro Rail Policy.
Recently, he concurrently managed three significant projects — Kochi Metro Rail Limited, Kochi Metropolitan Transport Authority and the Cochin Smart Mission Limited — of a combined size of INR110 billion. His other responsibilities included serving as Government Director on the Board of Cochin Shipyard Limited.
