A student challenge like no other

The KPMG Ideation Challenge (KIC) which has replaced the KPMG Innovation and Collaboration Challenge is a unique experience of a lifetime, designed to stretch your limits and challenge what you think is possible.

You will get to generate a new idea that could change the world, create a prototype and then pitch it to business leaders. Along the way you will work with KPMG’s data scientists, coders, business specialists and tech gurus, who will help bring your idea to life.

If successful, you will get the opportunity to take on teams from the rest of the world in Seoul, South Korea and even win seed funding to take your idea to the market.

What is in it for you?

  • 2020 KIC will provide you the platform to ideate around solutions that use data, analytics within a business context.
  • Creation of solutions for real client problems that KPMG professionals across the world work on day-in and day-out and the chance to bring your successful idea/prototype to the Global Finals in Seoul, South Korea. Winners of this challenge will receive USD50,000 in seed funding to bring their idea to life.
  • An opportunity to work in a diverse team, with colleagues and KPMG in India professionals from both technical and business backgrounds providing you critical business acumen and expertise. It’s a unique opportunity built to position you for success!
  • Coaching and guidance from KPMG in India professionals throughout the ideation and development of your solution, developing your consulting skills and seeing what life is like at KPMG.
  • A chance to learn about the type of work we do and an opportunity to explore a potential career with KPMG in India - a chance for to see where your interest and skills may best be suited.
  • An opportunity to work with the Lighthouse team to help you hone your idea and successfully pitch it to the client (judges). Lighthouse is KPMG’s global community of roughly 4,500 professionals across more than 20 countries who are some of the best and brightest experts in analytics, artificial intelligence and other data-driven technologies.

How do you do this?

Step 1. Take charge (Registration/Prelims): Get started by understanding the eligibility criteria mentioned on the page below. Gather a team of three, scroll down to understand the problem statement and conceptualise your idea regarding the solution. Register by sharing required details of your team along with a short summary of your idea, about the problem statement in 350 words and a WeTransfer link to access a video of 90 seconds duration in which all team members are presenting inputs about the idea. The recipient email ID to generate the WeTransfer link for the video is in-fmkicindia@kpmg.com

Registration ends on 1 December 2019.

 

Step 2. May the best idea move ahead (screening): The ideas/videos submitted by various teams will be screened by a panel of KPMG in India’s professionals. Teams with suitable ideas will proceed to the semi-final round.

Step 3. Test your mettle (semi-finals): Semifinals will take place in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Shortlisted teams will further detail out and present their idea to a KPMG jury. Winners of semifinals will then proceed to the national finals.

Step 4. Let creativity take over (Ideation Academy): Get involved at the workshop through our Ideation Academy to further hone your idea and gear up for the national finals.

Step 5. We are the best (national finals): Present the final and finished version of your idea to a KPMG jury and take a shot at winning the title of ‘National Champion’ as well as exciting cash prizes. If named as the ‘National Champion’, you will go through rigorous workshops and training by experts and mentors to help craft your idea and shape it into a prototype for presenting in the global finals.

Step 6. The ultimate (global finals): This will be your chance to compete with teams from different countries, share experiences and learn in an action-packed event at Seoul, South Korea from 30 March to 2 April 2020. The winner will receive funding of USD50,000 to take their idea to the market.

Over the course of time, you will have access to some of the sharpest and brightest professionals within KPMG. So, the further you get, the more experience you gain.

What are the eligibility criteria?

  • You can sign up for KIC as a team of three members (comprising at least one male and one female member).
  • You and your team members should be pursuing a full-time undergraduate/bachelor’s degree/post grad programme with at least one year remaining of your studies.
  • Your idea of the solution should incorporate usage of data and analytics, cognitive methodologies and should be scalable into a prototype and a business model/case.

This year we are challenging participants to come up with innovative solutions that use the latest advanced analytical technologies to improve efficiencies and enable a business to achieve more in less time. Here’s how you make that happen:

  • Pick a client of your choice, within any industry
  • You can choose to either solve an existing pain point or create a new product or service that would disrupt the status quo. 
  • Consider your solution. This could be anything from a business concept, to an activity, model, process, technology or service that leads to cost savings or revenue generation.
