Staff at KPMG Isle of Man have raised an astonishing £20,420 for Manx Diabetic Group, in support of Monitors4Kids. The Manx Diabetic Group exists to assist all type 1 and type 2 diabetics, young and old, on the Isle of Man.
Monitors4Kids is a parent-led campaign with the aim of raising money to end finger-prick blood testing in children, with newer, painless technology. Manx Diabetic Group is raising money and awareness to fund the provision of sensors to children on the Isle of Man which will enable monitoring of blood sugar levels on a mobile phone or handset – and alerts parents when levels dip dangerously low.
The money was raised over the past year through a variety of events and challenges including sponsored events, in-house raffles, dress-down days and cake sales. The proceeds from the KPMG Promenade Relay also contributed towards the total, as did funds raised from the Kidtopia family fun event, where over £14,000 was raised at these two events collectively.
Kristan King, Head of Citizenship at KPMG, said: “We are extremely pleased to have raised so much money for the M4K campaign. Whilst Kidtopia and the Prom Relay were the highlights, throughout the year our staff have put a huge amount of effort into a variety of regular events that have contributed to the overall total raised. We have also all gained some insight into diabetes and, in particular, the challenges that it poses for children and their parents in their daily lives. It has been motivating to know that the efforts made to assist the campaign have a real benefit for many local people.”
Joanne Clague, Chair of Manx Diabetic Group, said: "Thanks to everybody at KPMG for raising such a magnificent amount of money for the Monitors4Kids campaign. This technology makes a tremendous difference to local families, improving both the health and the quality of life of type 1 children and giving peace of mind to parents and carers. We're so grateful to KPMG for helping us get closer to our goal of raising £120,000 over two years."
As one fundraising year comes to a close, KPMG staff have voted for their chosen charity for 2020 to be Isle Listen. This relatively new initiative aims to highlight to young people that mental health is just as important as physical health, providing support and training to families and schools, to help children and young people navigate the challenges of 21st century life. Isle Listen is very much a community project and is the first charitable project of its kind to be created and delivered by a registered mental health service on the Isle of Man.
