Our programme covered the following areas, with the core theme on ‘Raising Standards Together’;

  • Isle of Man: The government’s digital leadership team presented their strategy and the planned changes to legislation to support the island’s development as a digital destination. A mix of long-standing residents talked about their interesting moves around the sector and new arrivals talked about why they chose the Isle of Man.
  • M&A: Our usual panel had a great deal to discuss given the size and significance of the deals which have surfaced and completed since our last event – looking at what impact those deals have had on the sector.
  • Raising Standards Together:
    • Diversity & Inclusion: Building on the success of the #WeAllWantToPlay initiative, we heard from the other companies and individuals driving progress in this area.
    • Innovation: We explored some of the key advances being made by the industry and its suppliers to enhance customer experience across a range of areas.
    • Protecting Customers: The concerns raised by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have made clear their view that the industry as a whole needs to do more to protect both vulnerable customers and problem gamblers. Since then, a number of operators have been issued with large fines relating to a range of failures in compliance. We explored what steps operators should be taking to protect their customers online and the lessons that can be learned from other sectors, hearing first from some of the key legal and economic advisers to the sector, and then from the groups supporting operators and players, including Senet, GambleAware and GamCare.
  • Industry View: We closed, as always, with the opportunity to hear from the key leaders from operators and service providers in the sector, commenting upon the discussions across the day and giving their view of the global direction and priorities for eGaming.
