Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research

KPMG Isle of Man is celebrating a record breaking year of fundraising for its chosen charity of the year, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

In 2012/13 KPMG Isle of Man's chosen charity was Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

KPMG Isle of Man is celebrating a record breaking year as it announces an amazing fundraising total of £29,031 for its chosen charity of the year, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. As part of its celebrations, KPMG is also pleased to announce Alzheimer’s Society as its chosen charity of the year for 2015.

Doctor and Patient

Over the past 12 months, the KPMG team have embarked upon a variety of fundraising activities ranging from rowing and cycling challenges held outside the KPMG offices, raffles, bag packing at supermarkets, cake baking, dress down days, bonus ball draws and make-up selfies. Individual KPMG employees have also tackled fun runs and marathons for charitable causes, racking up hundreds of miles and countless man hours in the process. The generosity of KPMG’s clients, staff and contacts contributed to the team beating its target and previous charitable fund raising achievements.

A significant proportion of the funds were raised through the annual KPMG Promenade Relay, a ten kilometre relay race across Douglas Promenade which, though only in its second year, attracted over 100 teams and close to 400 fun runners and serious athletes. The event, which is fast becoming a major part of the Manx business community calendar, raised over £17,000 which was split between Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and local charity Cameron’s Story.

Director Simon Nicholas enthused: “All of the Directors of KPMG are incredibly proud at the achievement the KPMG team has made this year. We all have very busy day jobs, demanding personal lives, but our staff repeatedly gave up their spare time to contribute in any way they could scenes to make this year’s fund raising activities the success they have been. It is clear from our work with Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, that the charity does a huge amount of great work for their patients and the community that supports them. We are only glad that we do our bit in return.

As we turn our attention to supporting the Alzheimer’s Society, we look forward to another record breaking year. Our staff voted to support the Isle of Man branch of this well respected charity with many of our families, mine included, having been touched in some way by dementia. The efforts by the charity to raise awareness, provide treatment and conduct life-changing research cannot be understated. There are many ways to get involved in the fight against dementia and we are proud to support this worthy cause."

Leading the fight against dementia, Alzheimer’s Society is a UK care and research charity which provides support to people living with dementia and their carers. Established in 1979, it is a membership organisation which improves the quality of life for dementia types which include Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia, Korsakoff's syndrome, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, HIV related cognitive impairment, mild cognitive impairment, and other rarer causes of dementia. The charity currently provides a network of over 2000 services in over 230 areas across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Commenting on being chosen as KPMG’s 2015 charity of the year, Steve Green, Operations Manager (Merseyside & Isle of Man) of Alzheimer’s Society said: “We are extremely grateful to KPMG for choosing Alzheimer’s Society as its charity of the year. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of others to help us support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow. We will look forward to seeing and hearing all about the different fundraising challenges that will take place and support KPMG as much as we can.’
