Real Estate Innovations Overview

We have seen innovations disrupt and transform our daily lives – from means of communication to working procedures and leisure activities. In the Real Estate industry, we should also shift away from a more traditional approach towards embracing the current wave of innovations by evaluating challenges of the industry and leveraging opportunities from innovations. KPMG believes that an increased focus on innovation and its incorporation into business strategy, might be the key to success in the long-run.

The 4th edition of KPMG’s Real Estate Innovations Overview shows numerous of these fascinating innovations that originate from all around the world.

In our view any Real Estate company not exploring and exploiting property technology and innovation should question its strategy.

First global edition

Change means opportunity. Digital transformation of our society is touching many industries – including Real Estate and Construction. These dynamics are opening new doors for many stakeholders. We see that PropTech has become an accepted element of strategy in the sector and that their development has grown into a global practice with an initial local origin.

This year we have again upgraded our innovations overview. Not only has this overview been created with support of Holland ConTech & PropTech and Global PropTech, we have also crossed borders and removed barriers by launching the first global edition. With a record of over 200 innovations, this overview shows the bright future of Real Estate when leveraging innovation but also the need for the industry to embrace innovation in their long term strategy. In our view any Real Estate company not exploring and exploiting property technology and innovation should question its strategy.

Trends

As opposed to our previous edition, we see that there is a trend towards categories such as: digitising processes, Internet of Things and Platforms to Connect. This strongly underpins the trend towards digital transformation and shows that many innovative parties still see opportunities in this field. On the other hand, the market for sustainable innovations and innovative constructions appears to have decreased relative to the total population.

Our report provides an insight into the dynamic scene of Real Estate and Construction innovations that are transforming the sector’s landscape, and touching diverse businesses and markets.
