Wins for Kingspan Insulation, Tony Smurfit of Smurfit Kappa and Portwest Ireland at 2018 Business & Finance / KPMG Irish Business Awards.

Honourees at this year's Business & Finance Awards were Mary McAleese, former President of Ireland, José Manuel Barroso, former President ofthe European Commission, and Joe Schmidt, Head Coach of the Irish Rugby Team.

The Business & Finance Awards in association with KPMG is the longest running business awards programme in Ireland. This year’s awards took place on Thursday, 13 December at The Convention Centre Dublin with over 1,200 business, political and social leaders attending.

The FDI award was won by Microsoft Ireland and presented by Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland. The inaugural ‘Elevation Award’ went to Portwest Ireland and presented by Julie Sinnamon, CEO of Enterprise Ireland.

Kingspan Insulation won Company of the Year in recognition of an exceptional performance in the past twelve months.

The leadership of Tony Smurfit, CEO of Smurfit Kappa was highlighted in the awarding of Business Person of the Year.

The strong export achievements of Portwest Ireland werecited by the judges in the awarding of the Elevation Award. Speaking at theawards, Managing Partner of KPMG in Ireland Shaun Murphy said; “At KPMG, we are proud to be long-term sponsors of the Business & Finance Awards and the excellence they recognise. The award winners are great examples of success inbusiness, in social justice, in politics and in sport.”

The 2018 Business & Finance Awards honourees

Honourees at the 2018 Business & Finance Awards are Mary McAleese, former President of Ireland, José Manuel Barroso, former President of the European Commission, and Joe Schmidt, Head Coach of the Irish Rugby Team.

In addition to the prestigious Company of the Year Award and the Business person of the Year, this year saw the establishment of The Sutherland Leadership Award in recognition of the late Peter Sutherland, one of Ireland’s outstanding business leaders. The inaugural Sutherland Leadership Award recognised former President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso. Mr. Barroso accepted The Sutherland Leadership Award at the awards with former Chairman/CEO of Unilever Niall FitzGerald presenting the special recognition award in Mr. Sutherland’s name.

Former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese received the 2018 TK Whitaker Award for Outstanding Contribution to Public Life as part of the 44th annual Business & Finance Awards. The TK Whitaker Award was established in 2016 to mark the 100th birthday of Dr. Ken Whitaker. The award recognises Irish and international political and social leaders who have made a unique contribution to public life with President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins being the first recipient of the TK Whitaker Award in December 2016, followed by Former Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD receiving the award in 2017.

In recognition of his tremendous achievements in Irish Rugby, Irish Head Coach Joe Schmidt was presented with 2018’s Outstanding Contribution to Brand Ireland Award.
