Denis O’Connor Walking Festival

KPMG established the Denis O’Connor Walking Festival to commemorate our late Managing Partner and raise much needed funds for a range of good causes.

Between 2007 and 2017, we helped raise over €500,000 benefitting the South Dublin Junior Arch Club (2007), the Hospice Foundation (2008), Focus Ireland (2009), Foundation Nepal and the Motor Neuron Disease Association (2010), Jack and Jill Foundation (2011), the Irish Cancer Society Daffodil Centre in the Mater Hospital (2012), Crumlin Children’s Hospital Cardiac Unit (2013), Merchants Quay Ireland (2014), Debra Ireland (2015), Aware (2016) and ARC Cancer Support (2017).

This year, we will be raising money for Pieta House. Pieta House was established in 2006 to provide freely accessible, professional services to people who are in suicidal crisis or who are self-harming. In 2016, the organisation expanded its services to provide suicide bereavement counselling. The charity has 15 centres across Ireland, and to date has supported over 36,000 clients using a solution-focused therapy model and an approach rooted in compassion and care. Pieta House employs over 240 full and part-time qualified therapists, and operates a 24/7 helpline. Each person who attends Pieta House does so free of charge.

KPMG’s Walking Festival Committee co-chair, Liam Lynch comments: “We were delighted to have Pieta House as our nominated charity for our 12th year of the Denis O’Connor Walking Festival. Pieta provides vital support for people who have mental health issues and this year and we are delighted that we will have nearly 100 Partners, employees, friends, family and alumni do the walk this year and raise much-needed funds for this worthy charity.”
