The KPMG Promenade Relay 2019 took place on Marine Drive and the new location, combined with the beautiful weather, did not disappoint. A sunny evening and a great turnout resulted in a fantastic race, with 56 teams entering the event, representing a variety of businesses and groups across the island.

This year's event was held in support of Manx Diabetic Group, with the event raising over £10,000 for the Monitors4Kids campaign. Monitors4Kids is a parent-led campaign with the aim of raising money to end finger-prick blood testing in children, with newer, painless technology. Money raised from the campaign aims to provide children in the Isle of Man with sensors, which will enable monitoring of blood sugar levels on a mobile phone or handset – and alerts parents when levels dip dangerously low. All entry fees and any sponsorship raised by participants will be donated directly to the charity.

The Wet Bandits were the victorious team, completing the 10k race in 32 minutes and 54 seconds and choosing to donate their winnings to Monitors4Kids and Hospice Isle of Man.

Georgia Kenyon, Tax Manager at KPMG and on the event organising committee commented: “This year’s event has raised an amazing amount for Manx Diabetic Group, which would not have been possible without the support of the many people and businesses involved, including our sponsors, volunteers, marshals, St John Ambulance, Telecabs, Event Management Solutions, Manx Timing Solutions as well as the runners who took part in the event!”.

Joanne Clague, Chair of Manx Diabetic Group, added: "Thanks to everybody at KPMG for raising such a magnificent amount of money for the Monitors4Kids campaign. To put it in perspective, this single donation will pay for an entire year's worth of blood glucose sensors for five type 1 children in the Isle of Man. This technology makes a tremendous difference to local families, improving both the health and the quality of life of type 1 children and giving peace of mind to parents and carers. We're so grateful to KPMG for helping us get closer to our goal of raising £120,000 over two years."

KPMG is extremely grateful for the support of Baker Tilly, Barclays, Claremont Hotel, Estera, Equiom, Manx Telecom and Zedra for sponsoring this year’s event, as well as media partners 3FM and the KPMG staff involved in organising and marshalling the event.
