Classic Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is about creating software robots that fulfill repetitive tasks. In other words, RPA is the automation of rule-based processes replicating the steps a human would take in order to execute the processes.

A software robot interacts with the existing user interface – just like a human would. This means there is no need to modify the underlying systems in order to automate the processes. It is a natural first step in automation, and it delivers both cost and quality improvements, due to the speed and consistency of the software robot

Since the software robot is using the existing user interface, it allows for a quick integration that can be in production within a short time span, making RPA a fast value creator rather than creating web services or Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in the first sprints.

The overall benefits of RPA include reduced costs, high scalability, quick process execution and consistency.

Are your processes ready to be automated? Here are three indicators to look for

  • Processes are digitalised

  • Processes are standardised and repetitive

  • Processes are (or should be) rule based and cognitive free. The correct execution of the process can be done without a need for individual judgment and evaluation.
