QueerSpace is KPMG in Denmark’s LGBTQI+ community that aims to drive change, promote equality for all and strive to create a better and more inclusive working environment. It is an employee-driven initiative that involves both top leadership as sponsors and passionate individuals that take extra time next to their job to work on advancing the initiative, creating a balanced community.
Our tasks primarily consist of creating a safe space for our people to be themselves without fearing being discriminated against or without experiencing hate.
QueerSpace is the co-chair of Pride@KPMG, KPMG’s global LGBTQI+ network, which exists to share knowledge and ideas. Pride@KPMG collaborates across borders to support all member firms in their work to promote equality for all internally, especially in those countries where conditions are more difficult than in Denmark.
For the past two years, KPMG has sponsored Copenhagen Pride. In 2021, we have upgraded our commitment and engagement by becoming official partners of Copenhagen 2021, WorldPride and EuroGames.
The partnership consists of different elements. KPMG will participate in various partner events and panel debates throughout the year, as well as the festival that takes place between 12 and 22 August. This year, we are attending the 1:1 Democracy festival, where it will be possible to meet us in a booth at Øksnehallen. We will also take part in panel debates and discussions that exemplify how KPMG acts and supports in favour of human rights.
KPMG aims to lead by example and help create a world where everyone feels included and safe. Partnering with Copenhagen 2021 means financially supporting the LGBTQI+ cause and reinforcing KPMG’s position as an ally. We believe that we have a role to play in celebrating diversity and inclusiveness and have the courage to change society with every action that we take.
Lasse-Erik B. Larsen, Senior Consultant, Founder of KPMG QueerSpace
QueerSpace aims to make a positive change for our colleagues, clients and the community. We have been working hard the past two years, and here are a few examples of what we have achieved so far:
Recently, KPMG published “Our Impact plan”. As part of the impact plan, KPMG has increased focus on inclusion and diversity as well as human rights, including the public commitment to the UN’s guiding principles on business and human rights.
QueerSpace’s goals and purpose taps into the global inclusion and diversity strategy, to ensure equal chances for everyone. We want to inspire other member firms with the work we do and not only make a change in Denmark, but for our colleagues all over the world.
