A KPMG’s Principal in our Risk Management Advisory department and her team will provide an overview of the main changes in the provisions of the European Capital Requirements Regulation (EU Regulation 575/2013 or “CRR”), as these arise from the CRR II and the Basel IV texts, and explain how the Pillar 1, capital adequacy calculations of banks should be amended to comply with the revised framework.

Hadjivarnava Artemis
Principal, Capital Adequacy Lead, Financial Risk Management, KPMG in Cyprus
Artemis is a Principal in the Financial Risk Management department of KPMG in Cyprus. She has extensive experience in the implementation of various assurance and advisory engagements, with relation to external risk management, Basel II and CRR/CRDIV (Basel III) calculations, Basel IV impact studies, ICAAPs, operational risk management frameworks, client assets, internal controls, AML, as well as overall regulatory compliance.
Artemis participated in Basel II, CRR/CRDIV (Basel III) and Basel IV projects with several banks and investment firms in Cyprus and possesses extensive experience in the treatment of client assets. She has also participated in the implementation of CRR calculation engines in the banking sector and performed audits of Pillar 1 calculations and Pillar 3 disclosures.
Furthermore, Artemis had an active role in the transposition of the European Council’s CRD 2 and CRD 3 provisions into CySEC legislation and has advised banks on the EBA stress testing exercise. Artemis has assisted CySEC in the development of guidelines for the proper handling and protection of client funds and financial instruments.
In 2015, she was certified by the HRDA as a “Trainer of Vocational Training”.
Demetriou Louis
Senior Manager, Financial Risk Management, KPMG in Cyprus
Louis is a Senior Manager in the Financial Risk Management Department of KPMG in Cyprus. He holds a BSc in Computational Mathematics from the University of Reading and an MSc in Financial Risk Management from the CMA Centre – Henley Business School of the University of Reading. He is also an IFID (International Fixed Income and Derivatives) certificate holder.
Louis has extensive experience in the implementation of various advisory engagements in relation to financial risk management, Basel II/III frameworks, capital adequacy calculations, ICAAPs, ILAAPs, SREPs and overall regulatory compliance. Furthermore, he has been involved in Basel II/III and CRR/CRDIV projects for several banks and investment firms in Cyprus. Amongst his duties while working on the said projects, was the provision of assistance in the quantification and assessment of risks, the calculation of minimum capital requirements and the implementation of capital efficiency and impact study exercises.
Moreover, Louis has delivered numerous educational seminars on the CRR/CRDIV framework and on the upcoming CRR II/CRD V (Basel 4) framework to various banks and investment firms.
Iacovidou Elena
Manager, Financial Risk Management, KPMG in Cyprus
Elena is a Manager in the Financial Risk Management Department of KPMG in Cyprus. She is a holder of BSc Mathematics from the University of Bath and an MSc in Financial Risk Management from the Henley Business School of the University of Reading.
Elena has extensive experience in the areas of MiFID I/II, Basel III/IV, PRIIPs and other regulatory compliance frameworks. Her experience spans across the investment and banking sectors. Particularly, she has participated in a number of Basel III and CRR/CRDIV projects for financial institutions in Cyprus, assisting them in the quantification of risks and the calculation of minimum capital requirements. She has also performed numerous audits of Pillar 3 disclosures for various investment firms in Cyprus.
Elena has been delivering seminars to financial entities on topics such as Basel III and upcoming Basel IV, MiFID II, PRIIPs and more.
