KPMG Advanced Data Management

The value of data in today’s digital, data-driven world should not be overstated. Data is at the very core of efficient business processes, timely marketplace insights and informed decision making. The importance of optimizing data’s veracity, volume and value in today’s fast-evolving, customer-centric global economy has made its effective management indispensable to business success. That’s where Advanced Data Management (ADM) comes in.

Simply put, truly effective modern digital capabilities such as artificial intelligence or data analytics, and the insights that drive smart decisions, can only begin with the data that underpins it. KPMG professionals are using ADM to help today’s forward-looking organizations unlock the value of internal data while helping decision makers uncover unique new perspectives from valuable sources of external data as well. The graphic below details examples of key ADM benefits: Customer Engagement/Financial Performance, Operational Excellence, Risk Reduction and Regulatory Compliance.

Examples of benefits of ADM

KPMG’s ADM framework is helping organizations maximize the value of their data while effectively managing its growing volume amid today’s increasingly complex combinations of data sources and models. The KPMG framework is a contemporary model to which KPMG professionals apply new tools and techniques that are aligned with current trends and emerging challenges.

Our focus is on providing the expertise and capabilities needed for smart data use – enhancing business efficiency and competitive advantage while making your business truly data-driven. The KPMG ADM framework is designed to identify appropriate internal and external data sources and then applies advanced technologies to process and visualize data for smooth business operations, advanced insights and timely business decisions. This approach is enabling clients to establish a data governance framework that serves as the foundation for stakeholder trust while helping to ensure long-term data quality and compliance.

As part of the broader ADM framework, KPMG professionals have developed an advanced AI-driven solution which evaluates client data, explores data sources and provides a list of quantified opportunities for company growth. It helps you discover the business value of your data and utilize it to its full potential toward the achievement of company goals. This brings about numerous benefits, including increased revenue, reduced costs, increased market value and improved operations.

Our framework also includes our ADM Maturity Assessment, which assesses maturity across the ADM framework’s 11 disciplines that are detailed in the graphic above. Our ADM Maturity Assessment includes our Maturity Benchmark, a global KPMG initiative that collects and evaluates ADM maturity in companies regardless of size, region of operation or industry type. The ADM Maturity Assessment is the first step in becoming a true data-driven business and features the following advantages:

  • Quick insights into the current and desired maturity level, helping to understand overall gaps and steps required for ADM improvement;
  • KPMG firms global experience combined with industry best-practices and market standards such as DAMA, CMMI, TOGAF and AIIM;
  • An easy-to-use online survey based on an objective outside-in view from a trusted party;
  • The global ADM Benchmark insights – available at no cost to all participants to help understand current marketplace conditions and business needs.

In 2020, more than 60 companies from around the world participated in our ADM Maturity Benchmark initiative. The results show that most organisations are not yet at the level whereby ADM Capabilities are part of standard business processes, as most ADM activities are ad hoc and reactive – leading to generally low average ADM maturity levels both overall and in individual disciplines. For instance, the findings from this initiative have shown that companies with an established role of Chief Data Officer (CDO), responsible for the definition of the data-management vision and strategy, have scored 42 percent higher on average in overall ADM maturity.
