Our planet

How we're driving real, sustainable environmental change.

Over the years, we have continued to challenge ourselves to reduce the impact we have on the environment. We regularly review our metrics and targets in view of our continual improvement and we are currently rebaselining our near-term Science-based Target. This is our commitment to generations to come. But we know we can’t do it alone, and we’re working closely with our clients, suppliers, communities and people so they can do the same.

Our commitments

We have a science-based target which is in line with a 1.5˚C pathway
We will achieve this by:
Using 100% renewable electricity across our estate by 2024.
Switching to renewable gas across our estate by 2030.
Engaging 100+ suppliers to make significant carbon reductions across our supply chain through our Sustainable Procurement Programme.
Making Significant carbon reductions on our business travel through ambitious ‘greening’ travel strategy.
Becoming a zero waste business - eliminating all avoidable waste from our operations by 2030.
Globally, KPMG has committed to understanding and improving our impact on nature.

Improving our environmental performance

Strong governance and transparent reporting are key to improving our environmental performance. We are committed to meeting, and where possible going beyond, our reporting requirements.

Our credentials and certifications

  • We achieved a CDP A- rating for our Climate disclosure in 2023.
  • We’ve been awarded a Platinum EcoVadis medal (2023) for the second year running for our integrated sustainability principles and management system, which places our firm among the top one percent of companies assessed.

Our stakeholder engagement

On 30 November – 12 December 2023, the United Arab Emirates hosted the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28). It’s a crucial opportunity to drive climate action, bringing together world leaders, policymakers, industry innovators, and environmental activists to exchange ideas and formulate strategies to tackle climate change.

During the conference, KPMG shared insights on the impacts COP28 may have and what that means for business. Our COP28 Resource Centre helps businesses better understand their nature- and climate-related risks and learn about cutting-edge sustainable practices and technologies that can increase environmental efficiency.

Throughout the year, we’ve hosted sessions to bring together inspiring keynote speakers with our colleagues to discuss the environmental issues we’re facing and ways we can all make a difference. One of our recent events took colleagues behind the scenes of the BBC’s Wild Isle series and the Business of Nature with two guest speakers to explain the importance of nature and what we can do to support it. This virtual event also covered how we’re helping our clients in this space too.

The Net Zero economy is going to bring about an unprecedented demand for ‘green skills.’ We’re working with schools in areas of low social mobility to build students’ ‘sustainability mindset’ and help prepare and excite them for the changing world of work.
